Private Treatment Quote Checklist: Costs to Confirm Before You Book
Published: 18 October 2026
Private treatment quotes can cover different items, so compare the written details rather than headline prices. Before agreeing to treatment, ask what the quote includes and which costs could be billed separately.
Ask for an itemised estimate
Check whether the price includes the consultant’s initial appointment, procedure, anaesthetist, hospital accommodation, diagnostic tests, medicines and follow-up consultations. Ask about possible extra costs if the treatment plan changes or you need a longer stay.
If you have private medical insurance
Contact the insurer before you book. Confirm the treatment and providers are authorised, what amount the insurer will pay and whether you may owe an excess or fee shortfall. Compare the approval with the provider’s written estimate.
If you are self-paying
Ask about payment timing, cancellation terms and what happens if the procedure is postponed. Keep the quote and any revised estimate.
Is a package price always all-inclusive?
No. Ask the provider to list inclusions and exclusions in writing.
